RENEWABLE ENERGY

WWF-Philippines supports renewable energy development in the country by engaging energy stakeholders, working together with industry partners, government leaders, and communities. Together, we drive the path towards energy security and sustainability, promoting clean and renewable technologies that uphold social welfare, spur economic growth, and protect the environment.

Spreading awareness and public engagement in promoting renewable energy as a viable replacement for fossil fuels, particularly solar and wind technologies through its Seize the Sun and Seize the Wind campaigns, WWF-Philippines worked together with energy partners, power producers and communities in the provinces of Rizal, Camarines Sur, Aklan, Guimaras and Misamis Oriental – areas with renewable energy projects that now provide 171,491.68 kW of much-needed energy to drive growth and development of communities and livelihoods. Over-all WWF-Philippines has supported sustainable energy initiatives that contributed 2,149 MW of new renewable energy and 1,917 MW of geothermal energy to the country’s power mix.

In addition, WWF-Philippines promotes energy efficiency in its own backyard through an energy efficiency training held in its Quezon City Headquarters, resulting to a savings of 16 percent of its electricity cost. Managing energy from the demand side leads to a more cost-effective use of energy in households and businesses. Supporting small island power development, WWF-Philippines has also engaged multi-sectoral power stakeholders in coming up with the Mindoro Island Power Development Plan.
