Research Assistant for the SIPA Project

PROJECT: Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA): Philippines

DURATION: November 15, 2023 to January 31, 2025 (1 year and 2.5 months)

 

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The SIPA Project's main desired long-term impact is to encourage governments in Central and Southeast Asia to develop and adopt infrastructure investment plans and pipelines of projects that are compatible with 1.5-degree trajectories and resilient to climate change, in line with the Paris Agreement or net-zero targets set out by 2050 or 2060. Nine countries across Central and Southeast Asia are target countries for the implementation of the SIPA Project. WWF is one of the implementing partners of the SIPA Project (led by OECD) in the Philippines and Indonesia and will be looking into mainstreaming natural capital in infrastructure decision-making, employing collaborative and participatory spatial assessments of natural capital and the ecosystem services supporting climate resilience. 

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The  Research Assistant is primarily responsible for accessing, collecting, and properly filing of relevant data as needed in the project’s analysis and scenarios modeling in support of project goals to assess nature-based solutions that support infrastructure resilience to climate change,  and integrate that information in subnational and national planning. This task shall be achieved through data sourcing and research, including liaising with technical and other relevant staff of government agencies, as well as other key partners and stakeholders when needed.  This post also entails effective coordination and collaboration with the project staff, relevant WWF staff, and relevant partners and stakeholders. The work will be coordinated to the best extent possible with other sustainability projects currently planned or under implementation in WWF Philippines and within the region. 

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the SIPA Project, the duties and responsibilities of the Video documenter shall cover the following: 

  1. Lead collection and filing of relevant data for access by project staff, consultants, and key partners and stakeholders.
  2. Act as liaison with key technical staff of different partners to help advance SIPA activities; and coordinate meetings, as needed.
  3. Provide expert recommendations on potential tools and data platforms available to support the communication (sharing) of assessment results for improved investment land-use/infrastructure planning that integrates climate risk and ecosystem services.
  4. Support WWF access to national and local data layers necessary to carry out maximally relevant modeling analysis.
  5. Assist  SIPA  Project  Coordinator in the implementation of activities with the WWF partner offices (Indonesia and US) and other SIPA implementing partners (reporting to OECD), key government partners, organizations, and related agencies and seek to ensure that the project delivers to a consistently high standard.
  6. Participate and assist in facilitating invitations for the participation of larger government staff at key workshops throughout the process, including a launch in the coming months, one interim presentation workshop for feedback, and a final results presentation.
  7. Participate in regular calls/meetings set up by WWF US, OECD, and other SIPA-related call meetings
  8. Help the Project Coordinator provide necessary communication mechanisms (emails, business letters, etc.) to partners and organizations
  9. Assist project staff in undertaking on-site visits to monitor project progress, meetings, and events, when necessary and permitted/approved by the KKP Management, following health & safety protocols
  10. Perform other tasks that the CEP Head may assign
  11. Work with the highest professional and ethical standards, and adhere to WWF PH’s core values.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Within WWF-Philippines, this post reports primarily to the Head of the Climate and Energy Programme and coordinates with the SIPA Project Coordinator. Work with other project staff, consultants, and WWF PH Communications Team is vital. Working opportunity with other WWF offices (particularly WWF Indonesia and WWF US) and respective programme staff is possible.

External: National government agencies,  other  SIPA  implementing partners, regional and local government partners, and other key stakeholders in the sustainable infrastructure. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Data Science, or any related field is required.
  • Master's degree in a related discipline is an advantage.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of ecosystem services and spatial analysis
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of data analysis
  • Preferably with familiarity or experience in working with different government agencies and stakeholders. 
  • Strong technical and story-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, with good decision-making skills.
