AgriClima Kicks Off LGU Workshop Series in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental

The Climate Proofing Agricultural Landscapes (AgriClima) Project, which is a collaboration between WWF-Philippines and BPI Foundation, officially began its series of LGU workshops on managing natural resources with environmental and livelihood considerations that involves understanding different ecosystems) and factoring in human activities as an integral part of the system.
La Carlota City, Negros Occidental served as the workshop series’ pilot LGU with the focus on the development of an integrated water resources management strategy (IWRM) for the Ara-Al-Nahalin-Marayo Watershed, which is essential in order to ensure the sustainability of the La Carlota Watershed which spans the city of La Carlota and the adjacent towns of Valladolid, San Enrique, and Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
Anchored on shared value principles, the workshop addressed relevant issues and concerns that impact the sustainability of La Carlota Watershed as a critical natural capital and a vital resource for the development of La Carlota, Valladolid, San Enrique, and Pontevedra. Through the workshop, the AgriClima project aims to reduce measurably the most significant environmental impacts of sugarcane production by adopting climate-smart agriculture practices that provide tangible and measurable impacts at the farm and catchment levels.
