The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines strengthens the fight against plastic pollution by partnering with Shakey’s Pizza Asia Venture, one of the top consumer companies in the country, and getting them onboard the #AyokoNgPlastik movement that hopes to achieve a future free from plastic pollution.

In signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last June 7, 2019 at the Shakey’s WOW Center in Paranaque City, WWF-Philippines formalized its partnership with Shakey’s Philippines that seeks to reduce, and eventually eliminate the usage of single-use plastics in their operations. Through this, the two organizations will work together to educate individuals on the issue of plastic pollution, eliminate waste by opting for sustainable packaging, and empower Filipinos in contributing to solutions for a healthier planet.

“The journey towards sustainability is truly a hard one that’s why we admire Shakey’s for taking the challenging road for a better world. This partnership is a great step in achieving a planet where there are no plastics in nature,” said WWF Philippines President and CEO Joel Palma, as he reiterated the importance of with individuals, institutions, and corporations to take the Philippines out of the top three plastic polluters of oceans in the world.

In addition to the initiatives to be done in their business operations, Shakey’s is also giving their customers a chance to take a more active role in the #AyokoNgPlastik movement. Consumers can now refuse single-use plastics whenever they order online by simply opting out of plastic cutlery, straws, and cups.

Aside from joining the movement against plastic pollution, Shakey’s is also part of WWF-Philippines’ ‘Just One’ to Save the Planet Program which encourages the world’s leading companies to invite customers to take a meaningful action with every transaction. Every online order done through Shakey’s website is an opportunity to donate one peso or more to WWF’s program against plastic pollution.

“It is our duty to both our guests and to nature itself to protect the world we live in,” said Vicente Gregorio, Shakey’s President and CEO. “What we have is a platform that can raise awareness, educate, and create a positive lasting impact to our environment. There is no better time to start than today.”
