On September 17, 2019, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, through its pioneer project on sustainable consumption and production, The Sustainable Diner: A Key Ingredient for Sustainable Tourism, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) as part of the KGP3 Conveners Committee 2019 at the launch of the Kalikasan GP3 2019 at the Novotel Araneta Cubao in Quezon City.
The Kalikasan Green Productivity, Green Purchasing Towards Green Philippines (KGP3) is a biennial advocacy event organized by the National Ecolabelling Programme Green Choice Philippines (NELP-GCP) to promote green products, to serve as a green platform for sustainability initiatives, and to become a knowledge hub that seeks to create a green convergence of commitments towards sustainable development among different stakeholders working in various businesses and industries.
On its 6th event, the Kalikasan GP3 2019 has decided to adopt the theme, “Doing More with Less for a Climate Smart Economy: Inclusive Growth for Tourism Industry and Upland Communities”. The overarching theme is designed to help advance sustainable consumption and production (SCP) in the country through three specific tracks: Sustainable Business Management, Sustainable Tourism, and Sustainable Forest Management. The goal is not just to discuss the significance of these fields and their environmental impacts, but to also tell stories of the recent events that are shaping the outlook of business and industries as a whole in the Philippines.

Signing the MOC were the members and representatives of the KGP3 Conference Conveners’ Committee - a group comprised of 12 distinguished personalities from the government, the private sector, and civil society organizations, who are leading the change in creating and implementing policies, directions, and initiatives that support the advancement of SCP in the country. The signatories for the Memorandum of Cooperation include the following: Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Philippines, Secretary Roy Cimatu of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Secretary Emmanuel De Guzman of the Climate Change Commission (CCC), Undersecretary Ruth Castelo of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Consumer Protection Group, Hon. Ma. Josefina G. Belmonte of the Quezon City Government, Mr. Jose Clemente III of the Tourism Congress of the Philippines, Mr. Kai Hoffman of GIZ Philippines, Mr. Jose Angelito Palma of WWF-Philippines, Ms. Liza B. Silerio of SM Supermalls, Mr. Steven Leung of Quanta Paper Corporation, Mr. Ed Sunico of Unilever Philippines, and Mr. Charlie H. Liu of the Philippine Wood Producers Association.

The objective of the MOC is to establish a framework for cooperation among the members of the Kalikasan GP3 Conference Conveners’ Committee to support the implementation of an action plan for the KGP3 Conference 2019, which will be held on November 5-6, 2019 at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center. The MOC provides a foundation for the different parties to work together to contribute to the goals of the Circular Economy Initiative in addressing climate change mitigation and the adoption and promotion of sustainable consumption and production in business management, tourism, and forestry.
The Sustainable Diner project, under WWF-Philippines’ Sustainable Consumption and Production, is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMU) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag.
