BASED IN: Bataraza or Balabac, Palawan

WORKS WITH:
Internal- Coordinates with the Project Manager, Boat Operations Supervisor, and other members of the concerned team
External- Interacts with partners in government, non-government including business sector, academe, and communities 

CONTRACT TERM: July 2022- June 2023 (subject to 5-months assessment period)

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Restoration Plan for Balabac and Bataraza, Palawan is a component of the EU project, “Ocean Governance: Protecting and restoring marine ecosystems, catalysts for building peace and security and fostering sustainable economies, South Asia and Atlantic Ocean basin” (hereafter referred to as “Ocean Governance”).  This particular project aims for:

  1. Increased knowledge and practice of protecting and restoring marine and coastal ecosystems in three selected areas of Marine Protected Areas in the South East Asian region;
  2. Improved basis for dialogue amongst marine and coast stakeholders in the South East Asian region.

This restoration plan for Balabac and Bataraza involves revegetation of denuded mangrove areas and understand better this undervalued ecosystem by communicating the ecosystem services that a healthy mangrove forest can provide to people living around it.

 

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This Communications and Training Coordinator is responsible for:

  1. The effective implementation of the Local Capability Program under the Ecosystem Restoration Plan for Balabac and Bataraza;
  2. The preparation of the detailed training program and arrange for the supplies, materials, and logistics required, in coordination with the Project Manager and the Mangroves Specialist Consultant;
  3. The preparation of communication materials and the distribution of the same, in coordination with Communications and Training consultant;
  4. The selection of trainees and resource persons for the training activities, in coordination with the Site Coordinator/Research Officer;

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares training activity plan and budget to be consolidated by the Project Manager;
  2. Implements training activity plan and coordinates with the Mangroves Specialist consultant;
  3. Prepares communications plan in consultation with resource persons/consultants, and Project Manager;
  4. Documentation of project accomplishments; 
  5. In coordination with the Project Manager, and Communications and Training consultant, prepare learning and education materials, video/audio clips for social media platforms;
  6. Perform other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Expected Outputs:

  1. Field/activity reports
  2. Communications and training materials
  3. Other reports that may be required by KKP, partners and donors

Education and Experience:

  1. Graduate of Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Fisheries, Marine Biology or other related course; preferably with MS units;
  2. At least three (3) years in marine conservation work including but not limited to: community outreach, training development and implementation, marine research, report writing;
  3. Good in writing and communication skills specifically with local partners in project sites coupled with the ability to multi-task; knowledgeable with local communities in Balabac and Bataraza.

Other Qualifications:

  1. With good organization and interpersonal skills;
  2. Good time management and problem-solving skills;
  3. Enjoys working with others and getting things done as a team;
  4. Knowledgeable on digital editing, word processing and presentation software;
  5. Ability to operate media equipment (i.e., laptop, projector).
