Site Coordinator for Mangrove and Seagrass Restoration and Rehabilitation Project

Report to: Project Manager / Site Manager

Area of Assignment:  Donsol, Sorsogon

WWF-Philippines has been working in Donsol, Sorsogon since 1997, and in partnership with the municipal government and the Department of Tourism, has been instrumental in setting up the whale shark tourism program which provided a lucrative and non-extractive source of income for the fishing community.  Over the past two decades, and with support from various government, corporate and WWF network donors, WWF’s role has evolved from assisting in setting up the tourism program to research and technical inputs toward management and improvement of the habitat. Two current projects are being implemented. The first project supported by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL) through WWF-US has 3 major components: conservation and research, eco-tourism, and environmental education. On the other hand, WWF-Switzerland is supporting a project on plastic waste leakage reduction. By 2022, WWF-Philippines will be implementing another two (2) projects; The Ticao-Burias Pass Protected Seascape (TBPPS) Marine Conservation Project and the Mangrove and Seagrass Restoration and Rehabilitation project. These projects will cover the whole TBPPS comprises of four (4) provinces and 18 municipalities.  

Basic Function: The Site Coordinator is the frontliner of the project in implementing the action plan in his/her assigned project site.  The Site Coordinator will work closely with the LGU and primary stakeholders, and is expected to perform community organizing functions to mobilize the identified site or sector to take actions according to the roles identified in the action plan. 

Duties and Responsibilities: The Site Coordinator will be primarily responsible for the following: 

  1. Serves as the primary contact person of the community or sector that has been identified as area of the action plan under the project;
  2. In coordination/consultation with his/her supervisor, takes the lead in implementing on-site activities in order to achieve project targets and results;
  3. Primarily responsible for logistical arrangements for project activities;
  4. Prepares reports that would be incorporated by the Project Manager for all project reports, as well as yearly workplans and budget;
  5. Perform other duties as may be relevant and necessary to accomplish the project objectives, and as may be assigned from time to time.

Working Relationships: 

  1. Internal: Within WWF Philippines, this post reports to Project Manager, and expected to work with other staff in TBPPS project sites.
  1. External: Government officials, community leaders and members, stakeholders, other NGOs, media and private sector.

Requirements for the Position: 

  1. Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree related to natural science or coastal resource management; technical familiarity any of the following: fisheries, mangrove forestry, coastal/marine resources.
  2. Work Experience: At least 1 year experience working on mangrove conservation or managing coastal resource projects. 
  3. Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience in community engagement (organizing skills is an advantage)
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills 
  • Good decision-making skills, organized, and takes the initiative
  • Interested and willing to learn the technical aspect in relation to the project implementation, particularly on plastic pollution reduction
  • Willing and able to travel 
  • Preferably resident of Bicol region and ability to speak the local language in place of assignment.
