The drive toward a sustainable Philippines gains steam as partners sign their commitments to renewable energy.
On the 14th of January, 2019, CityMall Commercial Centers, Inc. (CityMall), a subsidiary of DoubleDragon Properties Corp. (DoubleDragon) formally committed to support the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines’ renewable energy efforts in the country as the two parties inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) at the DoubleDragon Properties Corp. Headquarters in the Bay Area, Pasay City, Metro Manila.
Said MoA entails a partnership that will help boost projects that promote and demonstrate renewable energy use, low carbon development in cities, and sustainable consumption and production under the Climate Change and Energy Program of WWF-Philippines. Anchored primarily on public awareness and consumer education campaigns on the importance of caring for the environment and the benefits of solar power and renewable energy by way of exposure in all 100 CityMalls nationwide, promotion of WWF-Philippines’ existing campaigns such as Seize Your Power and Earth Hour, and other climate mitigation and adaptation initiatives, will also be pursued.
“Climate change remains to be a vital issue that affects us in so many ways. We need all the help that we could get in order to ensure that we proactively contribute to global climate actions while we work on making the Philippines a climate-resilient nation where both people and nature thrive,” said WWF-Philippines President and CEO Joel Palma who commended and thanked CityMall for their steadfast commitment to sustainability.
Working with WWF-Philippines is the latest commitment to renewable energy made by CityMall, which has previously taken on an initiative towards sustainability through a partnership with Solar Pacific CitySun Corporation that led to the installation of solar power facilities in select CityMalls across the country.
“DoubleDragon’s CityMalls are designed and built with above par quality that integrates green technology in line with our efforts of promoting sustainable development. The CityMalls the Company builds, are designed to endure the test of time and remain relevant for generations to come.” said DoubleDragon Chairman Edgar “Injap” Sia II.
CityMall is at the forefront of creating sustainable retail environments in the province. The organization has made use of solutions such as the use of solar power, LED lights, the optimization of natural lighting, modern waste treatment facilities, rainwater harvesting systems and, most recently, the use of green fans to further enhance cooling efficiency. DoubleDragon remains dedicated to the environment through its pursuit of modern eco-friendly initiatives across all its projects.
“The DoubleDragon team is committed in our long-term investment in green technology. We envisage our projects to be the template for other sustainable buildings that endeavor to achieve both efficiency while optimizing returns at the same time.” said DoubleDragon Chief Investment Officer Hannah Yulo.
The collaboration with CityMall will further push WWF-Philippines’ work in advocating for renewable energy, climate change framework plans, and sustainable urban development. Hope for a greener and more sustainable future continues to grow as more companies care for the environment.
