This project is founded on previous WWF studies and outputs generated for the watersheds of Santa Rosa, Laguna, and Ilagan, Isabela. Like other watersheds, the Morong-Teresa sub-watershed is experiencing increasing pressure from development interventions. These are stressing the watershed’s natural environment and land base as well as community services. By developing a thorough understanding of its operational footprint, Republic Cement Services, Inc. (Teresa Plant), in partnership with WWF-Philippines, will address the climate risks it faces, while capitalizing on the opportunities for it to boost organizational resilience.
Through the partnership, WWF-Philippines conducted studies which found that, with current trends and practices regarding water and water management in the project area, they are already consuming water at the limit of sustainable levels. By 2026, they will be water mining and by 2045, even with increased use of surface water from within the sub-watershed, there will not be enough water in a business-as-usual scenario.
In its Phase II, the project aims to develop a strategic framework plan for the sustainability of the Morong Watershed. This will be done through a series of workshops to formulate the plan which will later on be adopted by the stakeholders.
